Ok, so I didn't post anything before I left for skiing... But I'm going to make it up by posting a large entry about it
Me & my sister flew out to Italy last Sunday, at 3:00 am in the morning. The worst thing was, the coach journey to our hotel was actually LONGER than the flight!? And when we actually got to our hotel, we were greeted by a "boot-camp" style bedroom, 2 rusty bunk beds spashed with cheap red paint, 1 wardrobe, a wooden bench that was falling apart and a tiny bathroom with a shower which was a choking flow of boiling and freezing water... One of the people I was rooming with subtly said, "Oh my god! This room is piky!". To make matters worse the food didn't get any better...
We had pasta everyday with the same sauce, for starters. Main course consisted of 1 slice of meat with some sort of powdered mash-potatoe, it seemed Italy did not know the exsistance of vegtables... Pudding was always half a pear, which was often the highlight of the meal...
Supposedly, the snow was also very bad for beginner skiers, however, I found it quite enjoyable, skiing over mud and grass made it more of a challenge of avoidance, even if some people wanted to race down the hill at break neck speed. Our ski instructer was a legendary nutter! He was called Colombi (His grandfather was Columbus, he would tell us, pause, and then laugh at our puzzled faces, I guessed it was an attempt at a joke that us English should have understood...) and he was Dutch. You would fall over for the first time of the day and he would say, "Please, your name?" I would reply,
"Errr, Peter..." He would then reply, making sure the whole group heard it, "Peter, you are disaster! Haw, haw, haw!" Others would mimic his definitive 'Haw, haw, haw' laugh, but he would tell everyone they were a 'disaster' by the end of the trip!
I passed alot of the time reading 'The Long Way Round', listening to music (The Zutons / Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and naturally drawing. I'm processing pictures now and should be posting them in a couple of days! Good idea's for pictures on the coach / plane and hopefully I'll post those too. So long story-short, skiing was cool, hotel was not so cool
